Over Six Lakh Saplings to Be Planted Across Tripura for Forest Conservation: Minister Animesh Debbarma

In a major step toward environmental preservation, the Government of Tripura has launched a state-wide mass plantation initiative under the banner 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0', aiming to plant over six lakh saplings across the state. The campaign was formally inaugurated by Forest Minister Shri Animesh Debbarma at a state-level event organized at the DWS Campus, TTAADC, Khumulwng, as part of the annual Van Mahotsav (Forest Festival).

Addressing the gathering, Minister Animesh Debbarma underlined the critical need for forest conservation to maintain ecological balance and safeguard biodiversity. 'Due to deforestation, climate change, and human intervention, several plant and animal species are nearing extinction. Every citizen must take responsibility to protect nature—this is not just the government's job but a sacred duty of all,' he stated.

The Minister also announced that as part of this afforestation drive, a wide variety of medicinal and fruit-bearing plants will be planted, with active participation from local communities. Special nurseries have been established to supply high-quality saplings to support the campaign.

The event was graced by several eminent dignitaries, including: Shri Jagadish Debbarma, Chairman, TTAADC, Shri Purna Chandra Jamatia, CEM, TTAADC, Shri Bhaba Ranjan Reang, Executive Member (Forests), TTAADC, Smt. Swapna Debbarma, MLA, Shri Manab Debbarma, MLA, Shri R.K. Samal, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) & Head of Forest Force, Tripura, Shri Ganesh Debbarma, MDC, TTAADC and President of the celebration event.

The Forest Department of Tripura, which is spearheading the campaign, has urged people from all walks of life to join the plantation effort and contribute to building a greener and healthier environment. The initiative symbolizes a collective commitment to a sustainable future and serves as a tribute to motherhood through the symbolism of planting a tree in her name.
