Bereaved mother breaks down in agonizing cry for justice and death sentence for killers of her two sons

It was too agonizing a sight to behold long . A bereaved mother who had lost her two young sons to blood-thirsty murderers cried out in agony that no body is left in the world to call her mother. She was also accompanied by her widowed daughter in law and two grand children who were shedding tears-just in front of the residence of chief minister Dr Manik Saha. There was a big banner held high with the screaming headlines “Justice for slain Asish Das , his killers must be hanged to death”.

The backdrop in which the group of people including the mother, wife and two children of Asish Das (38) had arrived at Agartala , having already participated in a protest march at Kamalpur town on Monday last, is also heart wrenching. Asish Das (38), a resident of Barodrone village under Chhoto Surma panchayat , had been found dead bearing multiple injuries within the compound of the RKI brick kiln on June 16. It is suspected that Asish had been murdered deliberately by the owner of the brick kiln and his accomplices to snatch away the 7.15 acres of land that had been rented out by Asish’s late father to the owner. In a similar manner two years ago Asish’s elder brother Manish Das had been murdered to pave the way for final forcible occupation of the brick kiln land.

Following the filing of a FIR after recovery of the dead body the police personnel of Kamalpur police station arrested five persons including the owner and manager of the RKI brick kiln but the bereaved family members of Asish have misgivings over whether the culprits will be actually punished. Hence the protest rally in Kamalpur and demonstration in front of the chief minister’s residence at Agartala. While wailing for her murdered son Asish’s mother Shailabala Das grieved that her son Asish was a ‘Prishtha Pramukh’ of BJP and worked as party’s polling and counting agents in all elections since 2018 but the BJP MLA of Surma Swapna Das Paul did not visit them even once to convey condolences . Heart broken Shailabala said that unless the killers of her son were punished by the court with death sentence she would launch a fast unto death. After the protest demonstration for sometime the personnel of East Agartala police station persuaded them to leave the place but sad episode did show the increasingly fragile shape of the law and order situation in the state.
