Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury has alleged that the entire state administration is functioning under the control of a few politically protected miscreants, and accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of facilitating a growing atmosphere of fear and violence.
Speaking at the CPIM state headquarters, Chaudhury criticised Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha for failing to deliver on his promises of good governance and action against anti-social elements. “Despite the CM’s frequent assurances that elements like the tender mafia will be curbed, the reality across the state tells a different story,” said Chaudhury.
Citing several recent incidents, he alleged that CPIM workers and supporters have come under repeated attack. He mentioned that on June 17, the party office in Bishalgarh was surrounded by miscreants and later a supporter’s house was ransacked. On June 22, a local committee secretary’s residence was attacked, while similar incidents occurred in Narsingarh and Jogendranagar.
He also blamed Tipra Motha Party for following in the BJP’s footsteps. He claimed that a CPIM conference at Takarjala was disrupted by a group of 15–16 attackers. “Our supporters were threatened beforehand by the local MLA’s men. When the meeting began, the attackers arrived and tried to halt the event. Even after we agreed to disperse on police advice, our supporters were assaulted, including a senior woman leader,” he said.
Chaudhury further alleged that the call for ‘Thansa’ has brought miscreants, anti-socials, and touts together, misleading ordinary supporters for personal gain.
