Man gets 5-year imprisonment for minor's rape

A Tripura court sentenced 27-year-old Akash Nayak Bhil to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a Rs 2,000 fine for raping a seven-year-old girl. The verdict was delivered by Belonia District and Sessions Judge Govinda Das, also a Special POCSO Act Judge, on Monday.

The crime occurred on January 24, 2024, between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM in Belonia. Bhil lured the minor to his mud house under the pretext of showing her a mobile phone and committed the assault. The victim informed her father, who filed a complaint at Belonia Women's Police Station. The case was registered under IPC Sections 354(b), 376(a/b), and POCSO Act Sections 6/8.

Inspector Swapna Bhowmik led the investigation, submitting a charge sheet with 13 witnesses. The court convicted Bhil under POCSO Act Section 10 after examining 12 testimonies. Special Public Prosecutor Prabhat Chandra Dutta represented the state.
