Rail services to Tripura have been badly hit after a landslide near New Haflong in Assam forced suspension of train movement along the Lumding–Badarpur hill section. The incident occurred due to NHAI’s ongoing road repair works, which triggered a large chunk of land and boulders to collapse onto the railway track.
The Northeast Frontier Railway confirmed that the unstable slope and water flow from the adjacent road posed a major safety risk, prompting immediate suspension of train services between Lumding and Badarpur. The Railways has urged NHAI to deploy machinery and manpower for urgent protective measures.
Three key Tripura-bound trains have been short terminated. The 12501 Kolkata–Agartala Garib Rath Express and 12519 Lokmanya Tilak–Agartala Express, both of 22 June, were halted at Guwahati. The 20501 Agartala–Anand Vihar Tejas Express of 23 June was terminated at Badarpur.
Several other services have been cancelled or rescheduled, including the Silchar–New Delhi Poorvottar Sampark Kranti, now departing at 6:00 AM on 24 June. Restoration work is underway, but services will resume only after safety clearance. Passengers should check official updates.
