The Congress Party has announced its decision to contest the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections with full strength and resources. To kickstart the campaign, a mass gathering has been planned at Ambassa on Tuesday, said Tripura Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha during a press conference at Congress Bhavan.
Saha emphasized that the party’s tribal wing, Tripura Adivasi Congress, has been actively working in interior areas to strengthen its organizational base. He accused the current ruling parties of neglecting the tribal populace, citing economic stagnation, poor law and order, and lack of basic services in rural and hilly regions.
AICC Tripura in-charge Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka criticized the “double engine” BJP government for failing to bring meaningful development to the TTAADC areas. He pointed out that while other Sixth Schedule areas have central universities, Tripura’s tribal region still lacks such an institution. Poor roads, lack of clean drinking water, and inadequate sanitation continue to plague the region.
Ulaka also stressed the Congress’s commitment to promoting skill development and generating employment for tribal youth. Senior leaders including Christopher Tilak, CLP leader Birajit Sinha and other members of the Pradesh Congress Committee were also present at the event.
