The continuing criminal act of drug peddling now seems all set to degenerate into murder and blood spilling in north Tripura, the main entry point of contraband drugs in the state. Police sources from Churaibari under Dharma Nagar said that on June 15 a notorious drug peddler Sanjay Sahani (24) had been arrested by personnel of Churaibari police station shortly after entering the state from neighbouring Assam with a huge consignment of 80 thousand ‘Yaba’ tablets whose price in the black market is huge. Sanjay is a resident of Purba Phulbari area near the railway godown. The police have registered a case under the NDPS act against Sanjay who is under interrogation in police custody under court order.

But Sanjay’s arrest with the huge drug consignment is now posing a major threat to the lives of Rahul Datta (44), president of booth no-49 of the Kadamtala assembly constituency and Saumen Goswami (46) , president of booth no-48 of the same constituency. Sources said that shortly after Sanjay’s arrest his cousin and business partner Sankar Sahani has threatened to shoot dead both Rahul Datta and Saumen Goswami as the duo had allegedly filed complaint with police and informed them of Sanjay’s movement.

Scared by the threat uttered by Sankar Sahani, both Rahul Datta and Saumen Goswami , accompanied by more than a hundred members of ‘Friends Club’ of which the latter is the incumbent president, met the officer in charge of Churaibari police station Khokan Saha on June 21 and informed him of the threat and demanded immediate arrest of Sankar Sahani. The OC Khokan Saha has assured both the Ward-level BJP leaders that appropriate action will be taken to ensure their security but, sources said , Sanakar Sahani has been moving freely in the entire Churaibari area and blustering around that any one who will say or do anything against him or his family will be shot dead. An air of deep insecurity has descended on the entire Churaibari police station area.
