The incumbent BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajiv Bhattacharjee last night held a long meeting in the party headquarter at Krishna Nagar with seven ministers including IPFT’s Shukla Charan Noatia . Though nothing concrete about what transpired in the meeting has come out as yet except a social media post of Rajiv saying that the issue of implementing an all India programme of the party was discussed in the meeting.
Sources in the BJP said that the meeting was attended by ministers Ratan Lal Nath, Pranjit Singharoy, Sushanta Chowdhury, Tinku Roy, Santana Chakma, Bikash Debbarma and Shukla CharanNoatia (IPFT). None of the two ministers of ‘Tipra Motha’ was present in the meeting . All the ministerial attendees in the meeting looked grave ,indicating that something serious was discussed but no one gave any inkling of what had come up in the meeting for across-the table discussion. The chief minister Dr Manik Saha and minister Sudhangshu Das who is known to be close to former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb were absent from the meeting. Senior party leader Bipin Debbarma, Rampada Jamatya and some other members of the district council attended the meeting but MLA Bhagwan Das and party general secretary Amit Rakshit stayed away.
Sources said that the meeting might have discussed the issues of upcoming election to the ADC slated to come off in April next year and the feasibility of Village Committee elections late this year. Apart from this the growing alienation of ‘Tipra Motha’ and willfully autonomous functioning of the allied party in defiance of the bigger partner, the BJP might also have been discussed but there is no clarity on the decisions arrived at as none of the attendees spoke on the issue to the media.
But the most important question over which there is lot of speculation is the post of party president. Since Rajiv Bhattcharjee is already a member of Rajya Sabha he is unlikely to be allowed to continue in the post and a new incumbent will have to be appointed . The announcement in this regard is likely to be made next month but no indication has been given by the party about who is going to be the new state president.
