The Tripura government has offered permanent jobs to 18 individuals whose family members were victims of political violence, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference at the civil secretariat, Nath said 39 petitions had been received under the scheme. Of these, 18 have been approved while others are under review. A high-level scrutiny committee, headed by Nath and comprising senior bureaucrats and police officials, examines the applications based on reports from District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police.
Nath emphasized that political affiliation is not a factor in the selection process. “Only eligibility matters. This reflects our commitment to democratic values,” he said. Appointments are processed by the Finance Department depending on available vacancies.
He added that cases date back to the late 1990s and early 2000s. Applicants must apply through SDM offices, and some requests are pending due to incomplete documentation.
Nath also criticized the previous Left Front government, holding them responsible for widespread political killings during their rule.
