The chief minister Dr Manik Saha, accompanied by governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and other VVIPs took part in the 11th international ‘Yoga’ day function in the Hapania international fair ground in a solemn ambience. As part of the official programme the ministers, MLAs and senior party leaders fanned out all over the state to ensure grand success of the ‘Yoga’ day programme but the main programme was held in the Hapania international fair ground in the morning.
Apart from the chief minister , the programme was attended by the governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, minister for sports and youth programme Tinku Roy , MLA of Badharghat assembly constituency Meena Rani Sarkar, deputy speaker Ram Prasad Paul, international gymnast and Olympian Deepa Karmakar and chief secretary J.K.Sinha. All the VVIPs including the chief minister were attired in all white ‘Yoga’ trouser and shirt used at the time of exercise and all of them actually took part in the exercise along with many people including party workers.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion the chief minister described ‘Yoga’ as the most valuable contribution to the global world from India for sound health and well being. “The ‘Yoga’ for outer health and inner peace of mind was discovered by ancient Hindu saints and sages ; it not only keeps us in sound external health but strengthens and heals our inner organs , minds and spirits; there is no alternative to ‘Yoga’ for keeping a sound mind in a sound body” said Dr Saha. He asserted that in a world torn asunder by external pollution , diseases caused by this as well as mental unrest like anxiety, stress and depression only ‘Yoga’ can help us lead a physically and mentally healthy life with a positive view of the world . He urged upon the younger generation to devote themselves to daily and regular ‘Yoga’ exercise on a regular basis with guidance from competent and experienced instructors. The programme today evoked great enthusiasm among the people of the area.
In the evening the chief minister formally opened a decorated pond in the Milan Sangha area. This old pond known in the past as ‘Mantri Pukur’ had been in a poor and abandoned condition but the people of the Milan Sangha area represented by corporator Shampa Sarkar Chowdhury and her husband and former councillor Jayanta Chowdhury had got the renovation work of the pond sanctioned by the AMC. The pond has now been a major facelift with a park spread on all sides, cleaned water and installation of an image of Lord Siva in the middle. A long-pending demand of the people of the area has thus been fulfilled and the chief minister in his speech expressed his satisfaction over this.
