In a new spin of the continuing lawlessness in Bangladesh under the Yunus led illegitimate interim regime, large number of employees and teachers including senior doctors are being forcibly retrenched from service on the ground that they had attacked and persecuted activists of the so-called anti-discrimination student movement in July and August last year. In the latest such incident altogether 34 high-ranked employees including medical teachers, nurses and auxiliary heath staff of the Bangladesh Medical University which was earlier known as ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujeeb medical university’ are now consigned to waiting for the official axe to fall upon them. A meeting of the university syndicate has decided to fire the teachers and employees ostensibly for their involvement in attacks on anti-discrimination student activists in August last year under the banner of Awami League . It has been specifically mentioned in the Syndicate’s notification that the 34 employees including medical teachers and doctors unleashed physical attacks on the students as gleaned from videographic evidence.
This decision has created a panic in the minds of employees and teachers across Bangladesh in general schools, colleges including engineering colleges as communal and fundamentalist elements close to the ruling illegitimate regime may try to get them ousted from service any moment with impunity by raising fake charges of loyalty to ousted Awami League. Sources from across the border said many employees and teachers including those belonging to the high level are being forced to pay protection money to the fundamentalist extortionists.
Sources said that in the aftermath of the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year hundreds of teachers, mostly Hindus, had been forced to resign from service by the pathologically communal elements and fundamentalist thugs who had led the mob uprising . In one instance Geetanjali Baruah , headmistress of the Azimpur HS school near Dhaka, had been physically assaulted and tied around a tree by her own students and then forced to resign. A vice principal of Sylhet based Blue Star collegiate school, Ranjan Chowdhury, had been forced to sign papers of resignation by his own ex-students and mildly abused physically. These two and all other forcibly retrenched teachers had secured jobs by clearing competitive exams and had always been sincere and dedicated in their service. “At the moment the drive against Awami League is on but in August last year the teachers had been forcibly ousted only because they were Hindus ; the viscerally communal elements among the ‘Momins’ always feel morbidly jealous of the Hindus who manage to secure jobs by sheer merit and try to drive them away from ingrained envy and faith-induced hatred; now in the name of Awami League many more Hindus will also be targeted again” sources said.
