Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday slammed Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury for allegedly making derogatory and body-shaming comments during a recent speech. Nath accused the CPI(M) leader of mocking tall individuals by implying they are “stupid or dull,” in an indirect dig at BJP leaders, including former Chief Minister and current MP Biplab Kumar Deb.
Speaking at the BJP state headquarters, Nath condemned the remark as offensive, citing the accomplishments of tall personalities like Amitabh Bachchan, cricketer Ishant Sharma, late Odisha CM Biju Patnaik, and former Tripura CM Manik Sarkar. “Height is a physical attribute and has no link to intelligence,” he said, calling the statement discriminatory.
Nath also accused Chaudhury of making baseless attacks on BJP allies, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Tipra Motha Party, branding them liars. He questioned Chaudhury’s mental condition and demanded a public apology, urging CPI(M) leaders to seek treatment for him if necessary.
He further alleged that Chaudhury was ousted from Manik Sarkar’s cabinet over misconduct and remains tainted by his alleged involvement in the “ginger scam.”
