CPI (M) yet to come to terms with new geo-political realities, observe Palestine solidarity day on the occasion of Israel-Iran conflict

The CPI (M) or, inter alia, the Marxists seem incapable of drawing lessons from history and evolution of the global geopolitics. For long, since the end of second world war the communists have identified the USA as the foremost imperialist power playing footsy with the interests of the proletariat or working class represented by themselves or by social democratic forces of the third world. But the tectonic shift in the global power equations since the fall of discredited and unpopular socialist regimes of erstwhile Soviet Russia and East Europe and exposure of the gory realities of the fallen regimes from persistent political terror to genocide, famines and mass deportation appear to have passed by the Indian communists. They are blissfully indifferent to the emergence of China as the most potent imperialists in the global duopoly now.

Besides, possibly goaded by compulsions of electoral politics, the Indian communists have always sided even with theocracies of the Islamic world even at the cost of national interests. A testimony to the duplicitous policies of the Indian communists is that they once shed copious tears for the people of Vietnam and Cuba as they continue to do so for terrorist Gazans now but not a drop of tear is spared for the bestially persecuted and hapless Hindus of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The hypocrisy comes to the fore with telling effect in the case of Middle East and the Arab-Israeli conflict as is evident even now . It was in the year 1948, in the immediate aftermath of holocaust or mass murder of at least 55 lakh jews in Hitler’s Germany, that the state of Israel had come up as a Jewish homeland by a declaration of British foreign secretary Sir Arthur Balfour in part of the present territory of Palestine. There was however nothing in the declaration that made it an exclusive Jewish state-even now around 18% of the population in Israel is Muslims. But the entire Arab world wallowing in stark medievalism and theocratic misrule opposed the emergence of Israel and have already fought four unsuccessful wars in 1948,1956,1967 and 1973 to wipe the infant state out of existence. The indirect and low-intensity war against Israel has been continuing even now under the leadership of terrorist Hamas of Gaza, Hizbollah of Lebanon and Houthi of Yemen-all proxies of Iranian theocracy.

The latest round of conflict in Gaza and surrounding areas ,triggered by the massacre of 1400 innocent Israelis on October 7 2023, has finally led to the current stand-off between Israel and Iran, the fountain spring of all anti-Israel violence in Middle East. Ayatollah Khomeini led so-called Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979 leading to the ouster of princely ruler Reza Shah Pallahvi has already turned the once-prosperous and culturally progressive civilisational country into a barbaric medieval theocracy whose hallmark is genocidal rhetoric and threat to liquidate the state of Israel out of existence. The Israeli air attack on Iran was a legitimate preemptive strike to secure the country from an almost inevitable nuclear holocaust as the Iranian regime was close to making their dream atom bomb that might pose a threat not only to Israel but also to USA and Europe.

But the Indian Marxists have already proved where their actual sympathies lie with blaring but half-true headlines in the CPI (M)’s party organ that reads ‘Devastated Israel, Preparation for War in Iran’ or ‘Massive Losses in Israel, Tel Aviv and Haifa ’. Any reference to the destruction of Irani nuclear infrastructure across the country and death of more than 9 top nuclear scientists or more than twenty top generals is conspicuous by absence. This is comically supplemented by observance of ‘Palestine solidarity day’ in an obscure corner of the state. The fake celebratory mood of the CPI (M)’s party organ is unmistakable but the party that runs the papers seem willfully oblivious to the fact of invaluable Israeli help to India in times of crisis like wars in 1965,1971,1999 and the strikes on Pakistan in 2019 and the latest one last month. Besides, more than thirty thousand Indian workers are earning their livelihood in Israel over and above a number of infrastructure projects that Indian companys are implementing. Israel is the only country that has consistently stood by India through thick and thin and long back in 1948 this country passed a resolution in their parliament thanking India for full safety , security and dignity given them during stay in India by the Hindus when they had been subjected to horrendous persecution all over the world.

More significant is the fact that the Jews had been the original inhabitants of Palestine since time immemorial and till their expulsion from their motherland by the imperialist Romans in the 4th century AD . Even then a section of Jews had remained at home and , hence, the Jews who returned to their long-lost homeland can by no stretch imagination be termed as outsiders or usurpers. What now remains to be seen is the fate of Iranian medieval theocracy in the face of current onslaught from Israel and possibly later from the USA. The sooner the Indian communists realize the import of global politics and nature of theocratic Islamic rule vis-à-vis Indian national interest the better for them.
