A major controversy has rocked Dharmanagar after police conducted a raid last Friday at a spa and beauty parlour allegedly operating as a front for an illegal sex racket. The establishment'Venus Beauty Parlour cum Unisex Family Salon', is located just opposite Dharmanagar police station and had reportedly been running without any valid trade license for the past three months.

During the raid, carried out jointly by Dharmanagar police and a group of video journalists, four women employees were found inside the parlour, and they reportedly admitted to offering “massage services.” Police discovered four separate rooms inside the parlour where these services allegedly took place. Police sources confirmed that the parlour had no prior permission or license to offer such services. A man identifying himself as the "manager," named Palash, reportedly fled the scene during the raid.

The establishment is said to be managed by Saurav Majumdar, a resident of Ranirbazar in Agartala. Shockingly, his name had previously surfaced in connection with a similar racket in Dharmanagar’s Nayapara area.

What has triggered further outrage is the alleged harassment of an innocent young woman from Ambassa, named Anneshria Bhattacharjee, who had visited the parlour for a hair spa session at the time of the raid. Some so-called video journalists take her video footage without consent and circulated the video on social media, falsely portraying her as a member of the sex racket.

In a series of emotional posts and videos on her Facebook profile, Anneshria shared her traumatic experience and strongly refuted the baseless allegations. She further alleged that the individuals behind the smear campaign later demanded Rs 1 lakh to delete the video from Facebook, effectively blackmailing her.

The incident has sparked widespread anger among residents and civil society members in Dharmanagar. Many have condemned both the illegal activities at the spa and the gross violation of the young woman’s privacy and dignity.

“It is outrageous that such immoral activities were taking place right under the nose of the police station,” said a local businessman. “Even more disturbing is the public shaming of a girl who had no connection with any illegal activity.”

Local people also expressed concern, stating that the parlour, situated above a reputable IIFL Bank branch and next to several well-known shops, had an unusually high number of male visitors, while female clients were rarely seen.

Following the raid, the police have sealed the establishment and seized all related documents. Meanwhile, the public is demanding stringent action against those involved in both the illegal racket and the blackmail attempt. Calls have also been made for better regulation of spas and salons to prevent such incidents in the future.

As the investigation unfolds, all eyes are now on what action will be taken against Saurav Majumdar and others involved, both in running the illegal operation and in the alleged extortion attempt.
