In a significant and unprecedented move to boost indigenous entrepreneurship in Tripura, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), in association with IFCI Venture Capital Funds Limited and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, today launched the Indigenous Tiprasa Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme at Manikya Court, North Gate, Agartala.

This marks the first-ever focused awareness initiative in Tripura’s history dedicated to empowering tribal businessmen, even as the TTAADC faces mounting criticism for allegedly awarding most major development projects, from small-scale contracts to large infrastructure works, to companies from outside the state.

The event, which commenced at 12 noon, brought together aspiring tribal entrepreneurs, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss sustainable strategies for tribal business growth. Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, the chief guest of the programme, passionately advocated for robust financial and institutional support for indigenous businesses. He personally interacted with tribal entrepreneurs, urging them to utilize government supported financial schemes specifically tailored for Scheduled Tribes.

A key announcement during the session was the rollout of a special financial assistance scheme under the Venture Capital Fund for Scheduled Tribes, implemented by IFCI Venture Capital Funds Limited. Under this scheme, eligible tribal entrepreneurs can access loans ranging from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 5 crore at an interest rate as low as 4%. This initiative aims to reduce dependence on exploitative informal credit systems and provide a structured path to business scalability.

The dignitaries present included senior officials from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and IFCI Venture, who reiterated the Centre’s commitment to tribal economic development. The guests donned the traditional yellow risa, symbolizing cultural pride and solidarity.

This unique awareness programme has sparked hopes for a more inclusive development model, especially as the TTAADC administration continues to draw flak for bypassing local talent and entrepreneurs in favour of out-of-state agencies for nearly all development activities.

The session concluded with a strong demand for such awareness initiatives to be replicated across all tribal regions in Tripura, promoting the spirit of "Vocal for Local" and Aatmanirbhar Bharat among the Tiprasa communities.
