8th HFT Livercon Kicks Off at Hapania International Fair Ground: Two-Day Conference Focuses on Community Empowerment and Liver Health

The 8th edition of HFT Livercon, a prestigious scientific conference on liver disease, began today at the International Convention Centre (Indore Hall), Hapania International Fair Ground, Agartala. Organized by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura (HFT), the two-day event will continue through June 15, 2025, bringing together leading hepatologists, medical professionals, journalists, and public health advocates from across the country.

Initiated in 2012, HFT Livercon has grown into one of the most significant platforms in Northeast India for academic exchange and public health advocacy focused on liver-related diseases. This year’s theme, “Liver Health for All: Empowerment of the Community,” reflects the growing urgency to promote awareness, early detection, and community-based interventions for liver health.

The inaugural day witnessed engaging technical sessions led by national experts, alongside stalls and awareness campaigns dedicated to liver health. Participants and delegates from multiple states are attending the event, showcasing HFT's expanding impact beyond Tripura.

As part of its ongoing mission to involve the media in health advocacy, the Hepatitis Foundation will host a special interactive session with journalists and media professionals on Sunday, June 15, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Hall B of the Livercon VIII venue. The session is titled “Liver Disease, Changing Scenario: Interactive Session with Media”, and will focus on pressing issues and medical advances in liver disease management.

According to the organizers, the schedule for the media interaction session is as follows:

11:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Topic: Past, Present & Future of Liver Disease in India

Speaker: Dr. P N Rao, Veteran Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist, AIG, Hyderabad

12:00 PM – 12:30 PM

Topic: Fatty Liver Disease – Myths & Facts

Speaker: Dr. Gourdas Choudhuri, Veteran Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist, Fortis, New Delhi

12:30 PM – 1:00 PM

Topic: HIV and Hepatitis

Speaker: Dr. B B Rewari, Veteran Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist, ILBS, New Delhi

The session will be chaired by Dr. Ajit Ranjan Choudhury, along with renowned journalists Shri Sekhar Datta and Shri Dibakar Debnath, highlighting the importance of media collaboration in public health initiatives.

In a statement, Dr. Pradip Bhaumik, Chairman of Livercon VIII and Organizing Committee, extended a warm invitation to health professionals, journalists, and all stakeholders to participate in the oppen event and contribute to the collective mission of liver health awareness. Dr. Bhaumik, also the Professor in the Department of Medicine at Agartala Government Medical College, is the Founder President and Director of the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura and serves as a National Governing Body Member of the Association of Physicians of India.

"The conference serves not only as a scientific platform but also as a bridge between the medical community and the public. We aim to empower people with knowledge so they can take charge of their own liver health," said Dr. Bhaumik during the opening session.

The program is expected to conclude with a networking lunch on Sunday afternoon, fostering discussions and partnerships in the realm of public health and hepatology.
