The minister for agriculture Ratan Lal Nath today announced the commencement of a ‘Yello Revolution ‘ in Tripura as well as in other parts of the country through major increase in the production of honey through bee rearing culture. “This will be included in our approach to composite farming process ; honey is an invaluable gift of nature as it gives great stimulation to human body and its immunity besides working as ingredient for a large number of medicines; considering all this we will incentivize the production of honey and other necessary products like edible oil and palm oil of which we are in great deficit” said Ratan in an interaction with the media at Nagicherra government farm.

On the sidelines of the interaction with the media Ratan Lal Nath also gave cash awards to ten selected persons including woman engaged in agricultural and allied activities for a living . They include Sanjib Das of Ujan Dudhpukur in Unakoti who is an educated man earning more than Rs 1 crore a year on his fishing activities. Sukhamay Debnath, an Msc , who makes his living by cultivating lotus flower on one ‘Kani’ of land in Dukli area of Agartala. Besides there were Bijay Gope, an agriculturist and MBA by qualification and Susmita Tripura, a tribal woman graduate in agriculture from Kanchanpur who also earns a lot from her agricultural and allied activities and others including Ramesh Debbarma who have formal education but are making a good living by agricultural and allied activities . All ten were given cheques of Rs 10 thousand each.

Apart from this, Ratan Lal Nath also said that the centre and states are ready with funds and subsidies for agriculture and allied activities but because of lack of awareness . “ We are planning to launch an awareness programme on the benefits being given to the farming community in the state over and above the Fasal Bima Yojana and Kishan Samman Nidhi ; this will enable the existing farmers and will also encourage others to take to farming and allied activities in stead of running after jobs” said Ratan Lal Nath.
