Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday said that illegal infiltration from Bangladesh has slightly declined over the last six months due to intensified border surveillance. Addressing reporters after a press meet at the BJP headquarters, he dismissed the perception of a spike in infiltration, attributing the improved situation to the diligence of security forces.

Dr Saha acknowledged vulnerabilities along certain stretches of the India-Bangladesh border, where barbed wire fencing is either weak or absent. He said the issue has been raised with central leaders and security agencies. The Chief Minister also noted a rise in the detention of illegal immigrants as a result of ongoing operations.

His comments come amid pressure from coalition partner Tipra Motha, which has demanded a thorough drive to identify and deport undocumented Bangladeshi nationals living in Tripura without valid documents.
