Congress Leaders Ashish Kumar Saha and Sudip Roy Barman Rescued by Police at Midnight from Shantipara Amid Political Unrest

In a dramatic midnight development, senior Congress leaders Sudip Roy Barman and Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha were rescued by police from Shantipara locality in Agartala following a hostile standoff reportedly involving BJP-Suporter.

The incident occurred when both leaders rushed to the residence of Youth Congress leader Md Shahjahan Islam, whose home was allegedly attacked earlier in the evening. The attackers, reportedly agitated by Shahjahan’s recent criticism of the Chief Minister and certain minority leaders over communal violence during Eid celebrations, vandalized his home and assaulted his elderly father.

Upon arriving at the site, Roy Barman and Saha were reportedly surrounded by the mob and faced verbal threats and obstruction. Police forces intervened just in time, escorting both leaders to safety. A video showing Ashish Kumar Saha being rescued in a government vehicle has gone viral, sparking widespread outrage and political condemnation.

The Congress party has strongly condemned the incident, calling it an alarming reflection of the state’s political intolerance and deteriorating law and order. Demands for immediate investigation and accountability are mounting, even as the BJP is yet to issue a formal response.

This latest development highlights growing political tension in Tripura and raises serious concerns about the safety and freedom of opposition leaders in the state.
