A violent confrontation erupted late last night in Pahki Tripura village under Gandacherra subdivision of Dhalai district, Tripura, between two alliance partners of the ruling BJP, IPFT and Tipra Motha. The clash, reportedly stemming from a long-standing dispute over control and allocation of MGNREGA work, resulted in multiple injuries and extensive damage to property, including several houses, cars, and bikes. The area remains tense even today.

Local sources report that the two parties have been embroiled in a bitter power struggle in Gandateisha (Gandacherra) for a long time. The situation escalated last night when rival groups launched attacks on each other, leading to a spree of violence and vandalism. In response, additional police and security forces were deployed to the area to prevent further escalation.

In a disturbing development, journalist Subrata Das was attacked while covering the incident near the Gandacherra market bridge in Pahki Tripura village. Miscreants reportedly snatched his mobile phone, and erased the video footeg which was later recovered after police intervention. However, despite the attack happening in the presence of law enforcement, no arrests were made immediately.

Subrata Das stated that he was struck on his right hand with a wooden stick during the attack. He was initially taken to Gandatwisa Hospital and later referred to Kulai Hospital for further treatment.

Following the incident, a delegation from the Journalists’ Association of Tripura (JAT) rushed to visit the injured journalist at his residence on Saturday. They later met Dhalai Sub-Divisional Police Officer Saugata Chakma and submitted a deputation demanding the immediate arrest of those involved in the assault.

Officer Chakma assured the delegation that appropriate legal action would be taken against the culprits involved in the attack. The JAT delegation included its district President Bikram Karmakar, General Secretary Mithun Acharya, Assistant Secretary Satyajay Majumder, among others during the deputation with SDPO.
