Snatching gang, thieves arrested in separate operations

In separate operations, police arrested more than eight persons involved in different kinds of criminal activities like stealing and snatching on Friday. The operations had been carried out by different police teams of West Agartala and East Agartala Police station, SDPO Sadar DP Ray told media persons.

Stating that an infamous snatching gang active in Agartala city was detained, the police official said, “We have received numerous complaints against a motorcycle borne snatching gang. Even a few days ago, a 69 year old woman filed a complaint with the East Agartala Police Station against this gang. OC East Agartala Police station Raja Chatterjee constituted a special team to investigate the matter. In connection with the FIR, the police arrested three persons identified as Khitish Sarkar, Binoy Sen and Amit Debbarma.”

According to Ray, Khitish Sarkar is a history sheeter. “We have as many as four warrants issued against him. We have seized a motorcycle from their possession which was used for snatching related activities. They used to follow a donious modus operandi. Initially, a motorcycle was stolen and thereafter its number plate was exchanged to use for snatching purposes. The motorcycle which was seized was stolen from Swami Vivekananda Maidan several months back,” he explained.

In yet another operation, a special police team from West Agartala Police Station arrested five persons identified as Amitabha Das, Piklu Barman, Kinkar Deb, Faruq Miah, and Titan Dey on charges of stealing generator batteries from a court complex.

Moreover, 62 pieces of Banarasi Sarees had been seized from the residence of one Aman Chowhan. The estimated market value of the seized sarees would be around Rs 3.5 lakh.
