Interview Scheduled on National Holiday: Tripura University Continues Its Tradition of Irregularities

In an unusual and controversial move, Tripura University has scheduled online interviews for the post of Assistant Professor in Psychology on June 7, 2025, a day that marks a national holiday across India.

As per a notification issued by the university’s Recruitment Cell (No. F.TU/Teach-Rec/2025, dated 06.06.2025), a list of provisionally eligible candidates has been allowed to appear for their interview through online mode on the said date. This move has sparked criticism and raised questions regarding the planning and sensitivity of the university administration towards national holidays.

The university’s decision comes "considering the requests received" following an earlier notification dated 27.05.2025. However, conducting interviews on a national holiday has added to the ongoing criticisms of Tripura University, often dubbed by insiders and observers as “a great place of irregularities.”

The notification mentions that interviews will be held after completion of the interviews of candidates physically present on campus. The online link will be shared with selected candidates via email on the same day, just before the interview. Additionally, all candidates have been directed to submit scanned copies of all relevant documents, including mark-sheets, certificates, caste and NOC certificates, in a single PDF to the university’s recruitment email by 2:00 PM on June 7.

The situation has drawn attention from various academic and civil society groups who question the urgency and logic behind scheduling such interviews on a day when government offices, schools, and most institutions remain closed.

While the candidates, many from distant locations, are expected to comply at short notice and on a public holiday, the incident reflects a broader pattern of administrative inconsistency at Tripura University. Critics argue that such decisions not only inconvenience aspirants but also tarnish the image of a central university that is expected to uphold transparency and order.

This notification, signed by the Nodal Officer of the Recruitment Cell, has once again sparked conversations about the need for greater accountability and proper planning within the university system.
