In a shocking turn of events, the AGM office of the Power Department in Bishramganj under Sepahijala district came under attack on Saturday night as aggrieved consumers, furious over a prolonged power outage of more than 24 hours, stormed the office and vandalized property. The incident has left five people injured.
According to reports, electricity supply in several areas of Bishramganj was disrupted for an extended period starting from Friday evening. While some parts saw partial restoration, large areas remained without power till Saturday night, triggering widespread anger among residents.
Enraged locals, particularly from Lankamura and surrounding areas, thronged the office of the Assistant General Manager (AGM) on Saturday night and launched an attack. The situation turned violent, resulting in injuries to at least five staff members and individuals present during the incident. The injured were later taken to Bishramganj Hospital for treatment.
Local sources allege that despite repeated complaints and calls to the power office, no action was taken, which further fueled the tension. The accused group reportedly broke furniture and caused damage to government property during the assault.
Meanwhile, Bishalgarh Police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by the officials of the Electricity Department. An investigation is underway to identify and take action against those involved in the attack.
The incident has sparked concern over growing public resentment towards irregular power supply and poor grievance redressal mechanisms in parts of Tripura, especially during the ongoing summer heat.
