That the entire Tripura Central University (TCU) is immersed in all kinds of corruption is already well known and reported but the perfidious way in which the TCU administration harass and deprive deserving students of merit has come to light from a recent incident. Debajit Sarkar (22), a student of Chemistry from Belonia, had taken his Bsc honours exam and cleared the Common University Entrance Examination (CUET) . He was given provisional admission to Msc first year on the basis of his performance in the CUET exam.

But the matter took a bizarre turn as his Bsc (honours) result was notified after he had appeared at the 1st semester exam of Msc. But the devious TCU authority held up Debajit’s Msc first semester result on the wicked excuse that at the time of taking the 1st semester exam of Msc his honours result had not been cleared. The stupid and wicked TCU authority never spared a thought for the fact that at the time of admission to Msc first semester the basis of CUET result he did not have the Bsc (honours) result because the TCU itself had not declared the result in time. Moreover he had performed very well in the Bsc (honours) result .

With his further studies at stake Debajit Sarkar had no other alternative but to file a writ petition in the Tripura high court through his advocate Purushottam Roybarman . The case was heard and disposed yesterday with the presiding judge , Justice S.Datta Purkayastha directing the TCU authority yesterday to accept the admission of petitioner Debajit Sarkar to Msc second semester as he had cleared both the Bsc (honours) and Msc first semester exams. The justice also directed the TCU authority to declare the Msc first semester result of Debajit Sarkar. Besides Purushottam Roybarman the case was also fought for the petitioner by his junior Dipjyoti Paul.

Sources in legal circles here hailed the judicial verdict in favour of Debajit Sarkar but said that in his discretion the high court could have penalized the TCU authority at least by putting a cost on them as they have been habitual offenders in many small administrative matters. No body from the corrupt and callous TCU authority could be contacted for response.
