On the early morning of May 28, a powerful bomb explosion rocked a tourism building under construction at Jampui Hills, near the Jampui- Mizoram border, causing significant damage to the infrastructure. The explosion, reportedly carried out by unidentified miscreants, has raised serious concerns about security in Jampui Hills and its nearby key tourist destination of Tripura.
Two days after the incident, Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury visited the affected site at Jampui Hills to assess the situation. A high-level meeting was convened at the Eden Tourist Lodge conference hall, which was attended by the local MLA, senior administrative and police officials including the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, the Secretary and Director of the Tourism Department, public representatives, and community leaders.
In the meeting, Minister Chowdhury directed authorities to carry out a thorough investigation and identify those responsible for the attack. He assured that strict action would be taken once the culprits are found.
Interestingly, local residents in Jampui Hills have reportedly linked the blast to long-standing border tensions with Mizoram. According to local sources, miscreants from Mizoram allegedly entered the area with several vehicles and carried out the explosion. However, the minister refrained from confirming any such cross-border involvement and instead focused on initiating an official inquiry.
Notably, the minister did not disclose any details regarding the formation or composition of the investigation team or commission, raising questions about transparency in handling this sensitive issue.
