Incessant monsoon rain since last Wednesday has created flood conditions in many parts of the state with rivers, lakes and ponds overflowing with rainwater. But the most alarming condition has been reported from the low lying areas west of Bishalgarh town under Sephahijala district. With continuous rainfall over the past forty eight hours leading to swelling of rivers and other water sources the subdivisional administration has put people in low-lying areas like Bhati Bishalgarh on alert . The SDM Bishalgarh Rakesh Chakraborty has personally visited many water-logged areas and arranged announcement by microphone so that people from water-logged areas move to safer places for shelter in view of the distinct possibility that the early monsoon rainfall will continue at least till tomorrow evening. Official sources from Bishalgarh described the situation as grim and said that conditions will worsen with rainfall continuing today from morning . Most of the low-lying areas in the western part of Bishalgarh town have already gone under water and unless people shift from their homes in these places there will be serious danger to their lives and properties.
Apart from this the direct road connection between Bishalgarh and Takarjala has been completely disrupted by the collapse of the bridge over river Saida at Ramharipara in Takarjala under the impact of heavy rainfall . Sources from Golaghati under Bishalgarh subdivision said that the bridge had been in very brittle condition and people of the area had repeatedly requested the former MLA Birendra Kishore Debbarma and the sitting MLA Manab Debbarma to ensure renovation and repairing of the bridge but this was not done in time. As a result the bridge has collapsed this morning , completely cutting off Takarjala from Bishalgarh.
