Govt ignorant about roads in South Tripura: LoP

Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury has launched a scathing attack on the Tripura government, accusing it of negligence and apathy towards basic infrastructure needs in the southern parts of the state. In a strongly worded video statement, Chaudhury drew attention to the worsening condition of the Manubazar-Srinagar-Poangbari road—an essential link for several remote villages in the Sabroom region.
Calling the road a "lifeline" for residents of seven Gram Panchayats and three ADC villages, Chaudhury said that despite temporary patchwork following last year's devastating floods, the road has again fallen into disrepair with the arrival of the monsoon. He described the driving experience as "a nightmare," adding that the situation was no longer just inconvenient but dangerous.
The Leader of Opposition also pointed to contradictions in official responses. “Local PWD officials told me that a repair proposal has been submitted. But the Chief Minister, while speaking in the assembly, claimed the tendering process is still underway. Both statements can't be true at the same time—it shows the confusion and lack of coordination in governance,” he said.
Highlighting the collapse of a belly bridge in Baishnabpur, Chaudhury said that PWD officials are now scrambling to reuse materials from decommissioned structures to fix vital links, a move he said reflects the state’s failure to prioritise essential public infrastructure.
In a direct call to action, Chaudhury urged residents to rise in protest and demand accountability, accusing the government of being more focused on optics and publicity than addressing urgent ground realities. “When the streets speak, the system listens,” he remarked.
The remarks have sparked political ripples across the state, as the opposition sharpens its focus on crumbling infrastructure as a key issue ahead of future civic polls.
