In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Tripura government has transferred a total of eight officers, including IAS and TCS officers, in an order that was signed on May 27 but officially uploaded on the state government portal only this afternoon.
The most notable among the transfers is that of Dr. Vishal Kumar, IAS, who has been relieved from the additional charge of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Commissioner just a month after assuming the post. Sources allege that Dr. Kumar, known for his upright approach, had stopped the signing of several files where AMC funds were allegedly being misused and had ordered preliminary inquiries into multiple irregularities. His proactive stance reportedly displeased several AMC councillors, eventually resulting in pressure for his removal, a move said to have been endorsed by both the Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister.
The transfer list includes the following key changes:
Shri K. Shashi Kumar, IFS, currently CCF (Territorial) and Secretary, Science, Technology & Environment Department, has been given additional charge as Secretary, Tribal Welfare (including TRP & PTG) Department. He is relieved from his earlier additional charge of Secretary, Science, Technology & Environment.
Shri Brijesh Pandey, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer and Secretary, Tribal Welfare (including TRP & PTG) Department, is now relieved from the Tribal Welfare charge.
Shri Chaitanya Murti, IFS, PCCF, has been given the additional responsibility of Principal Secretary, Science, Technology & Environment Department.
Shri Dilip Kumar Chakma, IAS, DM & Collector, Unakoti, has been transferred and posted as the new Municipal Commissioner of AMC, replacing Dr. Vishal Kumar.
Shri Tamal Majumdar, IAS, Additional Secretary, Revenue and GA (AR) Department, is posted as DM & Collector of Unakoti District.
Dr. Vishal Kumar, IAS, DM & Collector of West Tripura, is relieved from his additional charge as AMC Commissioner.
Shri Subrata Datta, TCS Gr-I, Sr. Dy. Collector, West Tripura, has been transferred as Deputy Secretary, Revenue Department.
Shri Rupon Das, TCS Gr-I, Addl. SDM, Sonamura, is also posted as Deputy Secretary, Revenue Department.
This reshuffle, made “in the interest of public service,” reflects both routine bureaucratic adjustments and, in some quarters, a politically sensitive fallout following anti-corruption initiatives at the municipal level.
