Tensions escalated in Tripura politics as a second delegation of Tipra Motha leaders met Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha this evening at his official residence, urging immediate disciplinary action against Gomati District Magistrate TK Chakma, IAS. The demand arises from a recent controversy in Udaipur, where DM Chakma allegedly refused to meet Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and TTAADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Purna Chandra Jamatia during their official visit.
Despite an earlier meeting yesterday between a group of Tipra Motha MLAs and MDCs led by Minister Brishaketu Debbarma and Chief Secretary JK Sinha, no administrative action has been taken so far. Frustrated by the inaction, another group of party leaders approached the Chief Minister today with a formal memorandum seeking intervention.
The memorandum, submitted on Tipra Motha Party letterhead and signed by ex-MLA Rajeshtwar Debbarma, TTAADC CEM Purna Ch. Jamatia, and others, outlines three key demands:
1. Ensure the DM meets elected representatives and engages in constructive dialogue to address public grievances.
2. Direct the DM to implement development schemes and projects in a timely and transparent manner.
3. Take disciplinary action against the DM for what they described as "unprofessional conduct and disregard for democratic protocols."
The letter also enclosed a screenshot of an attempted call record as supporting evidence of the alleged non-cooperation by the DM.
Following the meeting, senior Tipra Motha leader Rajesh Debbarma shared a statement on Facebook, saying:
> “We are grateful for the opportunity to meet with Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura and appreciate his assurance to take expeditious action on the matters discussed. We look forward to a prompt resolution.”
The issue has now taken center stage in state political discourse, with Tipra Motha asserting that refusal to engage with elected tribal leaders is not only disrespectful but also undermines constitutional institutions like the TTAADC.
Observers say the state government's next steps will be crucial in determining whether the standoff intensifies or finds a resolution through administrative intervention.
Meanwhile, the Youth organization of Tipra Motha YTF has already threatened to the administration that if no action has been taken within 96 hours, they will launch statewide agitations.
