Abnormal rise in the number of CNG and battery fuelled autorickshaw services almost all over the state has emerged as a new menace in the state’s internal transportation, adversely affecting the much cheaper bus and jeep services . This has also adversely affected the commuters as well as middle distance travellers-so much so that the bus service between Teliamura and Agartala has been suspended by owners and drivers . Altogether 28 buses ply between Teliamura and Agartala daily and this convenient for the passengers also as bus fare is much lower but recently there has been a spurt in the number of autorickshaws that ply between Teliamura and Agartala and they take away the passengers of buses. There was also a clash between a bus driver and autorickshaw driver in Tuisindrai area under Teliamura subdivision and a group of unruly autorickshaw drivers not only beat up the bus driver but also damaged the bus. The incident escalated up to Chandrapur Inter-State Bus Terminus also , causing great inconvenience to the passengers wanting to travel by bus. Similarly services run by Commander and Max jeeps were also affected and in protest against what happened the bus owners and drivers have kept their services on the Teliamura Agartala road suspended until a solution to the problem is found.

Sources aware of the problem said that owing to lax vigil and lack of control or corruption of the vehicle and transport department as well as traffic many autorickshaws that obtained permit for running vehicles in far-flung areas intrude into Agartala and ply within the town. There are autorickshaws that have permits for remote Chhawmanu are of Sabroom but ply vehicles in Agartala, causing inconvenience to bus and jeep service. Without any official authorization from vehicle department many autorickshaw ply between Agartala , Bishalgarh , Melaghar and even Udaipur also . There is no checking by the traffic or vehicle department. Sources said that at one stage in future this will emerge as a major problem and chaotic condition for transportation problem in the state unless it is controlled now.
