A major narcotics bust was carried out in Sabroom on Sunday night, with contraband worth an estimated Rs 26 lakh seized from a residence in Srinagar. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and BSF personnel raided a house in Shivbari Para, allegedly used for illegal activities.

The raid, led by SDPO Nityananda Sarkar, Executive Magistrate Titu Debbarma, BSF Officer Vinod Kumar Singh, and local police officials, uncovered 5.2 kg of cannabis, 10,000 packets of foreign cigarettes, four walkie-talkies, chargers, and a motorcycle.

The house belongs to 72-year-old Chhaya Rani Bhowmik, who was not present during the raid and reportedly does not reside there. Her grandson, Debajit Dey, is the prime suspect and is currently absconding. A manhunt has been launched to trace him.

Authorities suspect a wider network and further investigations are underway to uncover the full scope of the operation.
