Tripura’s newly appointed Director General of Police, Anurag Dhankar, on Sunday revealed that the state’s overall conviction rate stands at 30 percent, calling it a positive sign for policing efforts. Speaking to the media at the SP office in Unakoti district, he emphasised the need for continuous improvement in law enforcement across the state.
The DGP visited several districts, including Unakoti and North Tripura, where he chaired meetings with police officials to review the law and order situation. He praised Unakoti district for achieving a significant 44 percent decline in crime, attributing it to effective policing.
Dhankar, who previously held the position of Additional DGP overseeing law and order and intelligence, said the current visits were part of a broader initiative to finalise a future action plan. He stressed the importance of police-public cooperation in tackling crime, particularly the growing drug menace in the state.
“The Chief Minister envisions a drug-free Tripura. We will work in coordination with all stakeholders to realise this goal,” he added. During the visits, officials including OCs, SDPOs, ASPs, and SPs were present. The DGP also inspected the 13th Battalion TSR headquarters at Kanchanpur.
