Woman gives birth to baby in running train

A woman gave birth on board the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjungha Express near Dharmanagar railway station on Thursday, drawing swift response from authorities and fellow passengers. The woman, Kyatki Nagatia from Ranchi, was travelling from Sabroom in South Tripura when she went into labour as the train neared Dharmanagar. Passengers quickly informed the Government Railway Police (GRP), who responded without delay.
As the train arrived at Dharmanagar station, GRP personnel assisted in safely evacuating the woman and her newborn. Medical staff from Dharmanagar Railway Hospital were immediately called to examine them. Doctors confirmed that both mother and baby were in good health and stable condition. They were later shifted by ambulance to Dharmanagar District Hospital for further observation and care.
GRP Dharmanagar Officer-in-Charge Uttam Kumar Kalai praised the timely action of the passengers and officials. “We acted as fast as possible to ensure their safety. It was a joyful and unforgettable moment for everyone present,” he said. The incident brought smiles to many at the station, who applauded the coordinated effort that ensured a safe and successful delivery under unexpected circumstances.
