A content creator, Sanu Malakar, was allegedly assaulted at the premises of the Tripura Sundari temple on Sunday after a dispute erupted over the background song used in one of his performances. The incident, which was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, has sparked significant backlash and a wave of support for Malakar.
According to eyewitness accounts, Malakar was performing at the temple premises with a Hindi devotional song playing in the background. The song, reportedly referencing a deity from another religion, drew objections from a member of the crowd, identified as Tushar Kanti Shil. The situation quickly escalated into a verbal altercation, and in the chaos that followed, Malakar was allegedly roughed up.
While some witnesses claimed physical assault, others described it as a heated argument. Regardless, the footage of the confrontation went viral, prompting an outpouring of criticism against the aggressor and overwhelming support for Malakar.
As details emerged, public sentiment shifted even more strongly in favour of the content creator. Malakar, known for using his performances to raise funds for the underprivileged, was reportedly performing that day to support an elderly woman in need who was sitting nearby.
The incident triggered such widespread outrage that BJP MLA and BJP Yuva Morcha President Sushanta Deb personally intervened. In a show of support, Deb reached out to Malakar and urged him not to be discouraged. “You are doing commendable work for society. Do not let such incidents shake your resolve. I stand with you,” Deb said in a message to the performer.
Attempts to reach Malakar for comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
