Woman constable files complain against TSR rifleman with west Agartala woman police station for sexual harassment

Whether it was consensual affair marked by regular carnal interaction is not clear but Gayatri Das, a constable of Tripura police currently posted in north Tripura, has filed a complaint with the west Agartala woman police station against Pranab Biswas , a rifleman of TSR 6th battalion, for continued sexual harassment and rape over the past more than three years. It is not known whether the complaint has been registered as FIR but the gory details of the complaint is startling to say the least.

In her complaint Gayatri Das said that while living in AD Nagar police quarter she had gone to Teliamura in July 2021 in connection with a family programme and there she had met face to face with Pranab Biswas, TSR rifleman and ostensible PG to commandant of 6th battalion Jayanta Chakraborty. She had got introduced to Pranab Biswas through ‘Facebook’ and after the meeting in Teliamura Pranab visited her at her quarter and had raped her by force and then he had promised to marry her. This continued at regular intervals and after sometime Gayatri Das had come to know that Pranab Biswas was married and had a son. She raised the issue but Pranab said that he would divorce his wife Jayasri Majumder and then marry her.

But after some time when the carnal interaction had been continuing Gayatri pressed Pranab for marriage but was threatened by him that in case she made this an issue he would kill her and flee the state. By this time information about their contact had reached Pranab Biswas’s family and one night in March 2023 Pranab’s wife Jayasri Majumder, brother Pradip Biswas and father Ratan Biswas stormed Gayatri’s quarter at night and abused her besides threatening her with murder. This was followed by regular telephonic threats and abuses and on September 30 last year Gayatri, as claimed by her in her complaint to police, had made a formal complaint to IG (TSR) giving details of how she was being abused by Pranab Biswas. He initially reacted by meeting Gayatri in her quarter and assuring her of marriage but on April 6 this year he met her again and told her to let him free.

After being abused and physically tortured and threatened for a long time Gayatri Das finally lodged a formal complaint with the west Agartala women police station on April 17 but, even though more than a month has passed, the police have taken no action against accused TSR (6th battalion) rifleman Pranab Biswas . The west Agartala woman police station inquiry officer could not either be reached telephonically for reaction to queries on the matter.
