Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has called for urgent action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in Tripura. In a detailed press statement, Debbarma urged both the state and central governments to identify and deport individuals living with fake identities. He claimed that Bangladeshi nationals are unlawfully staying in slums, rented houses, and densely populated areas, and have acquired Indian documents like Aadhaar, PAN, voter IDs, and ration cards with political and broker support.
Highlighting the risk to national security, Debbarma warned that some migrants support Pakistan and may have links to extremist groups like ISI or radical Bangladeshi outfits. He also alleged that migrants have settled in government and forest lands, including areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), such as Longtharai Valley, Gandatwisa, Dumburnagar, Korbook, and Sabroom.
He further claimed that some illegal immigrants have adopted Hindu identities and married local women to secure permanent settlement. Debbarma demanded a state-level “Operation Detect and Deport Bangladeshis” similar to recent drives in Delhi, Assam, and Gujarat. Citing government inaction, he called for immediate intervention by the Chief Minister, the Governor, the Home Ministry, and the TTAADC, urging political parties to act in the national interest.
