A high level meeting to review prevailing security profile in the state along the border with treacherous Bangladesh in the context of the current Indo-Pak conflict came off today in the official residence of the chief minister Dr Manik Saha. Besides, the chief minister who presided over the meeting, it was attended by DGP Amitava Ranjan and chiefs of Assam Rifles, CRPF and BSF as well as high civil officials.

What transpired in the meeting is still not clear but sources privy to the proceedings in the meeting said that the main agenda for discussion was the security scenario in the context of the Indo-Pakistan conflict and security along the border because of infiltration from Bangladesh. Infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals has been continuing over the past many years but this gained in momentum after the forced ouster of Awami League government in August last year. But the major source of concern is that the current illegitimate regime in Bangladesh backed by fundamentalists and communalists has got paly with the Pakistani regime as part of its anti-India agenda.

Sources said that there are reports that a number of Pakistani ISI operatives have recently landed in Bangladesh to co-ordinate anti-India activities by criminals and Islamists based in Bangladesh so that trouble can be created in India’s northeast to ease the pressure on Pakistan on its mainland. “There is no official confirmation of this report but this was most probably discussed in today’s meeting and the chief minister directed the security forces and their chiefs to maintain the highest level of vigilance along the border” sources said.
