Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today emphasized the vital role of humanity in everyday life, stating that compassion should not be reserved for crises alone but practiced consistently. Speaking during the virtual inauguration of a district-level blood donation camp organized by the Indian Red Cross Society’s State Branch on the occasion of World Red Cross Day 2025, he highlighted the theme: “Keeping Humanity Alive.”
Dr. Saha remarked that in a world where empathy is steadily declining, the Red Cross Society’s efforts are commendable. Recalling the legacy of Henry Dunant, founder of the Red Cross in 1863, he said May 8 is globally celebrated in Dunant's memory to promote humanitarian values.
He also mentioned the launch of Saharsh Utsav, aimed at reducing academic pressure on students from classes I to VIII and fostering values like humanity, patriotism, and responsibility. “Children are the future, and instilling these values early is crucial,” he said.
Dr. Saha praised the relentless service of doctors and health workers, especially at GB Hospital. He criticized the tendency to highlight only negative incidents in healthcare, stating, “This too is a matter of humanity.”
He assured continued state support for the Red Cross Society and stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between blood demand and supply. The event was attended by Red Cross officials, district administrators, and other dignitaries.
