Bishop Lumen Monteiro of Agartala Offers Best Wishes to Newly Elected Pope Leo XIV

Bishop Lumen Monteiro CSC, DD, of the Diocese of Agartala has extended heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on behalf of the Catholic community and people of Tripura. In a message shared today, Bishop Monteiro expressed joy and spiritual solidarity with Catholics worldwide on the historic occasion of Pope Leo XIV’s election.
“The Diocese of Agartala unites in prayer with Catholics all over the world that under the leadership of the newly elected Pontiff, an era of peace and blessing come upon all peoples of the world,” said Bishop Monteiro.
The message, issued through Fr Joseph Pulinthanath SDB, spokesperson of the Diocese, highlights the Church's commitment in Tripura to global unity, interfaith harmony, and spiritual renewal under the guidance of the new Holy Father.
Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, was elected as the 267th Pope of the Catholic Church on 8 May 2025. Before his papacy, he served as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America since 2023, following years of ecclesiastical leadership in Peru and with the Augustinian Order. His election marks a new chapter for the global Catholic community.
