In a joint operation, the Tripura Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) recovered eight factory-made pistols and 16 empty magazines from two unclaimed bags on the Agartala-Firozpur Express. The seizure took place during a routine search as the train arrived at Agartala Railway Station early Thursday morning.

The RPF personnel discovered the suspicious bags in a nearly empty compartment. GRP and RPF officers were alerted, and upon inspection, the firearms and magazines were found, along with clothing and cosmetic items. No suspects have been identified yet, and a case has been registered.

Assistant Commandant BK Sinha confirmed the seizure and said the pistols resembled .9 mm service revolvers. Although no live ammunition was recovered, the weapons are capable of causing fatal injuries if used by trained individuals.

Additional Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar visited the station following the recovery. Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das stated that CCTV footage is being reviewed, and the arms were likely smuggled into Tripura with malicious intent. Security measures on long-distance trains have since been tightened.
