The left-oriented trade unions are continuing their campaign in support of the proposed nationwide strike on May 20 called by several trade unions. They are organizing seminars, meetings and rallies in different parts of the state and claiming that a good response is coming from the general people, especially the working class.

As part of the campaign program, the Sangjukta Kishan Sabha has decided to organise a street corner meeting and rally in Agartala on May 12. Pabitra Kar, on behalf of the organisation, told a press conference that the Government of India in the name of implementing the labour code is implementing a harsh rules where the working class will not have any rights. He said once the code is implemented, there will not be any guarantee of minimum wage, working hours, right to organisation, etc. He said the May 20 strike is against such draconian code and urged all sections of the people to participate in the strike.
