The Tripura government has disbursed Rs 109.34 crore under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to support 2,13,543 farmers affected by the devastating 2024 floods. The funds were transferred directly to beneficiaries' bank accounts.
At the disbursement ceremony, Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath hailed the move as historic, marking the largest-ever financial assistance for farmers in the state’s history. He praised Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and state officials for securing the funds following the torrential rains in August 2024, which severely damaged crops across Tripura.
In addition to NDRF aid, 1,751 farmers will receive Rs 39.43 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, offering further relief.
Nath noted that some areas recorded over 720 mm of rainfall in August 2024—more than double the average—resulting in widespread agricultural loss. Funds for three agri-subdivisions are still pending.
Highlighting progress, he said 30 blocks have become self-reliant in food grain production. He also praised PM Narendra Modi’s focus on farmers, adding that agriculture is gaining popularity among educated youth.
