Chairman of North East Industrial Development Council Sailendra Pratap Singh on Friday said that the central government funded body would conduct major skill development training in Tripura. Briefing the media persons at Agartala after a one-day long workshop organised especially for surrendered militants, Singh said, “We have several key areas for work. The Central Government has instructed us to make sure that the North East becomes child trafficking free, the problem of drugs is eradicated, women empowerment, promotion of skill-based self employment opportunities for youth and help surrendered militants earn a decent living.” Stating that NEIDC shall conduct a major skill development training programme in Tripura, Singh said, “My agency is keen on organising skill development training on a major scale. I have said that we are ready to conduct training for 5,000 to 20,000 youth in the sectors they want to pursue in future. Sectors like bamboo and rubber have huge potential for self-employment training. Apart from that, we can also provide job oriented skill development programmes. Experts in Hotel, Telecom and Logistics will impart training on various job roles to help youth get placement. Sometimes education emerges as an impediment but something similar to what is aspired can be arranged for the youth.”
He also stated that his agency would send a detailed report to Tripura CM on the activities they are capable of conducting for enhancing employability of youth.
