Tipra Motha Party founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Friday urged the Indian government to sever diplomatic ties with Bangladesh, likening the situation to India-Pakistan relations. He criticised Bangladesh’s interim government led by Md Yunus, calling it undemocratic, and raised concerns over China building an airbase near North Bengal and recent ISI activity in the country.

Speaking after a TTAADC event, Debbarman accused Bangladesh of showing no respect towards India and recalled the persecution of Hindus in regions like Noakhali and Cox’s Bazar, once part of princely Tripura. He criticised CPIM leaders for questioning his stance, pointing out that many of them had ancestors who fled religious persecution.

He warned that poverty and unemployment often enable fundamentalist ideologies to spread and urged people to avoid violence against innocents. Stressing India’s rise as a global power, he contrasted it with the worsening state of Bangladesh and Pakistan. Debbarman claimed he still enjoys support in Bangladesh and remains undeterred by threats from extremist elements.
