Tripura: Police constable’s wife arrested for involvement in bank fraud

Months after a financial fraud to the tune of Rs 82 lakh came to light in HDFC bank’s Udaipur branch in Gomati District of Tripura, wife of Police constable Jayanta Saha had been arrested in connection with the case. She had been arrested from North Bengal. On Friday she was brought to Udaipur and produced before the court. Her husband was already arrested for being involved in the same scam.

The investigation is being spearheaded by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), while senior officials, including the Additional Superintendent of Police, are closely monitoring the process.

The accused identified as Priyanka Pal Saha, wife of police constable Jayanta Saha from R.K. Pur Police Station, was detained on 21 April by officers from Pradhan Nagar Police Station in Siliguri, West Bengal. She was brought to Udaipur via Agartala Airport and handed over to the Radhakishorepur Women’s Police Station. Later, she was produced before the District and Sessions Court, which remanded her to one day of judicial custody.

Speaking to the media, SDPO Nirman Das confirmed that the fraud involved approximately Rs 82 lakh, as revealed by initial findings. He also hinted that several individuals, both within and possibly outside the bank, are believed to be involved.
