In a shocking incident around 12:15 PM today, the CPI(M) district office of North Tripura and the sub-divisional office in Dharmanagar came under violent attack once again, marking the 10th such incident under the current BJP-led regime, according to CPI(M) leaders.
Around 40 to 50 bike-borne assailants reportedly stormed into the party office while leaders and activists were discussing upcoming political programs. Without warning, the attackers unleashed brutal assaults on those present and vandalized each room, turning the office into what party leaders described as a "pile of rubble."
Among the injured were Harakumar Nath, CPI(M) Dharmanagar sub-divisional secretariat member and secretary of the Tripura Farm Labour Union, who was dragged outside and allegedly beaten with weapons, causing severe bleeding. He was later rescued by locals. Niranjan Debnath, CITU Dharmanagar sub-divisional secretary and CPI(M) district committee member, was also dragged and dumped in a roadside drain before being assaulted.
Other CPI(M) leaders including Ratan Roy, Bidyut alias Ramu Dey, and DYFI leader Pranab Roy were also attacked.
CPI(M) district leader Amitabh Dutta condemned the violence, stating that such attacks will not suppress the voice of the leftist movement. He criticized the BJP for allegedly using such fascist tactics at a time when the nation is mourning a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. He warned that these violent actions may only aid the forces of terrorism and threaten national unity.
He also raised concerns about lawlessness, pointing out the attack on the home of retired school principal Sajal Chakraborty in Jail Road, Dharmanagar. The 70-year-old, who is severely ill, was allegedly assaulted, and his home ransacked by miscreants, including damage to books, computers, and furniture.
Amitabh Dutta declared that communists will rise again from the ruins, organizing the oppressed and working-class people to resist fascism. He called for immediate and exemplary action from the Home Ministry to uphold democracy, the Constitution, and citizens' rights. He ended with a clarion call:
"Long live the revolution! Socialism is the future!"
