Massive Irregularities in Ration Material Distribution in Tripura

Allegations of massive irregularities have surfaced in the distribution of ration materials in various parts of Tripura, particularly concerning the supply of edible oil and other essentials. Despite tall claims from the state government about ensuring proper public distribution, the reality on the ground tells a different story.

In many areas, including Lichubagan, Rajeev Colony, Kalinagar, and parts of Shalbagan, residents have complained that they received only partial or no ration items despite official records showing full distribution. The situation came to light more prominently after Vanish edible oil packets – reportedly distributed under the government scheme – vanished immediately after first distribution.

Sources indicate that although the state government has been receiving these ration materials through central allocations, they are not reaching the intended beneficiaries properly. In some locations, people were given just one litre of oil despite being entitled to more under the scheme.

A total of 70,000 ration cardholders were supposed to benefit from the scheme, yet many have either not received anything or were given items without proper measurement or packaging. The issue has become serious enough for local administrative officers to hold repeated meetings, but concrete action is still lacking.

Ration shops cardholders are blaming the government for being negligent and even accusing it of mismanaging public resources. Citizens have demanded transparency in the rationing process and called for a proper inquiry into the entire distribution chain.
