Residents of Rangachhara area in Amarpur staged a road blockade on Thursday morning, demanding immediate resolution of persistent drinking water and electricity shortages. The protest took place on the main road near the 5th Battalion TSR headquarters in Natun Bazar.
According to the protestors, the area has been suffering from drinking water criss and frequent power disruptions for the past several days. Despite repeated complaints to the authorities, no concrete solution has been provided. Frustrated by the inaction, locals decided to block the road as a means of protest.
The blockade caused major disruption to traffic, with several vehicles and commuters stranded on both sides of the road. Upon receiving information, officials from Birganj Police Station and Manoj Dhanshu, Manager of the Amarpur Power Corporation, arrived at the spot. They spoke with the protestors and assured them that the issues would be resolved at the earliest.
Following the assurance, the blockade was lifted around 12 noon. However, locals expressed scepticism, stating that they have been given similar promises in the past without any long-term solution. They warned that if the situation persists, they may resort to a larger movement in the near future.
