It is a more or less known fact that most of the minor crimes with the possible exception of homicide happen in Tripura as well as in other parts of the country in connivance with the law-enforcers-that is , police. This was proved last night in areas of Teliamura police station where the minister for tribal welfare and elected representative from Krishnapur assembly constituency, Bikash Debbarma had to lead an operation against illegal gambling in the garb of ‘Charak Puja’ fair.

Sources from Teliamura said that a ‘Charak fair’ had been going on in Krishnapur over the past few day but behind the ‘Puja’ and fair gambling racket was active and a number of gamblers had been exchanging money. The entire shady operation had been on by bribing the Teliamura police station and local outpost. The minister for tribal welfare Bikash Debbarma had come to know of this after arriving in Krishnapur yesterday in the evening and , realizing the indulgent role of police, he decided to act against the illegal gambling rackets. At his intervention and stern instruction police personnel from Teliamura headed by officers raided serial raids on the gambling dens in and around the Krishnapur ‘Charak’ fair and nabbed a number of gambles red-handed besides seizing at least twenty three motor bikes by which the gamblers had reached the gambling fair. The nabbed gamblers are being produced in court today.

Speaking to media persons tribal welfare minister Bikash Debbarma said that the fair was being polluted by the gamblers even though it is actually an occasion of unity and solidarity among Bengalis and tribals. He said that such black acts will not be tolerated in future and he also strongly instructed the police officers and jawans to act tough against such immoral acts to save families from ruination by the scourge of gambling.
