Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has unveiled a tax-free budget of Rs 476.55 crore for 2025-26, marking a Rs 60 crore rise from the previous year. Mayor Dipak Majumder presented the budget, which includes a modest deficit of Rs 72 lakh, to be managed through enhanced revenue collection via GIS-based property tax, trade licences, and service charges—without introducing any new taxes.
A significant proposal includes Rs 56 lakh for a modern slaughterhouse at Durga Chowmuhani to phase out open slaughter in public spaces. Key infrastructure allocations feature Rs 28 crore for flood pump houses at Shakuntala Road, Ramnagar Road No. 4, and Satsanga, and Rs 4 crore for a new delivery pipeline.
To improve healthcare services, Rs 10 crore has been set aside for a 50-bed Civil Hospital at Jackson Gate. Another Rs 5 crore is allocated for development in extended municipal areas. Additionally, AMC has earmarked Rs 2 crore for a Bharatmata Canteen-cum-Night Shelter offering subsidised meals and accommodation. The budget is supported by higher revenues and grants under central schemes like the 15th Finance Commission, Swachh Bharat Mission, PMAY (Urban), and the Smart City Mission.
